I have a ford f250, 1986, 7.5, (460) 2wd. I went to replace the transmission modulator valve and when I took it out trany fluid came pouring out, when I looked up how to replace the valve no one said anything about needing something to catch fluid in.
Is this supposed to happen or do I have a bigger problem then a bad modulator?
As you have found by know, they go in and out pretty easy. I just put a little pan to catch the fluid. Have the new one ready and plug her in there as quick as you can. Not a whole lot will come out but try to minimize it.
Yes, fluid will drain out when the modulator is removed. Just don't forget to pull the pin out of the old one, and insert it into the new one prior to sticking it in place.
You oughta see the mess that happens when the modulator isn't secured properly, and it pops out while driving down the road......... Been there, done that.
