NOISE FROM AC COMPRESSOR I THINK ???

Okay I have this sound coming from the front of motor it hard to disscribe but its kind of wrupp wrupp sound and also a kind of metal rubbing sound . At first i thought water pump but today after laying under truck and watching compressor kick in the sound gets louder and when it kicks off the metal rubbing sound . Oh and besides for the refregerant leak AC works fine for now. Any of yall have a compressor make sounds like this, something tells me its on its way out.

Loosen your belt and then feel your a/c clutch. My truck ate one last summer but it was not obvious until it was real bad.

Crank it with the belt off. Could also be idler pulley. Spin it by hand and check for play and roughness in bearing.

Yeah first thing (like stated above) is to remove your serp belt. I chased a noise on my old 7.3l and it turned out to be a idler pulley. I changer out ac comp, water pump, powersteering pump, alt, etc So be sure to check the air gap on the a/c clutch and if its good id say if you had a leak it probably from the ac compressor and thats the root of all your problems. Just my $0.02

From the sounds of it the clutch and or bearing has probably taken out the front seal.

It is not uncommon for a defective clutch or front bearing to compromise the compressor seal.
