ok guys ive got a 1984 f150 300 i6 ive just done a dura spark conversion and now this. After doing the conversion i got the truck started and close on timing. I then hooked up my timeing light and started the tuck timing light was working but barly shining so low that i could look into the light. Thinking something was arong with mine i was off to buy a new cheap one that will get the job done. Pulled the new one out the box hooked it up and started again same thing happen I am stumped. since i have replaced sparkplugs, wires, coil. the only thing i havnt replaced is the rotor and top being the one from the jy had a new one on it. Ive also had the ignition box tested just in case and it tested out good. I am truly lost here and am needing some help!!!!
dang ive not evan thought of that i will try again tomrrow and make sure battery connects are good their not dirt cuz its a new battery and connects maybe a so so ground for the battery i ll be checken into it thanks alot
Ok so i tried again and same results but here is some new info the timing light was connected i hear it charge up next started the truck the timing light turns on doesnt flash just a low light like a flash light that has almost dead batterys , i tried the negative side of the battery hook up on everything same results. I then started trying the pick up on different wires. The light stays on regaurdless of being hooked to a light or not
Wire i ment to say not light and right towards the end the light does nothing now. Could i have gotten a bad timing light from harbor freight being it was cheapo and my current light is bad too in its circuit board

Try hanging either or both of your timing lights on another car...even if you try it on a buddy's. If it does the same thing...lights bad.
It's very puzzling that this could be happening. The timing light just needs a 12V source....It don't even have to be the batter in your car. You put the lead (inductive pickup) on the plug wire and it senses the current flow through the wire and triggers the circuit to flash the light. So if it's not working, it would certainly seem it's the light.
NP...we know what your referring to though. When the balancer slips and the timing marks get moved....yet you still try to time the motor on thos marks.
