I have a '94 F150 with the 5 speed manual tranny and big 6 engine. The transmission code on the door pillar is M. Anyone know the make of the tranny and the gear ratio of each gear? Thanks
Thanks for the info. That brings up another point. Just bought the truck. The seller put 16 inch wheels with LT285/75R16 tires on it. The original tires were 235/75R15. According to a tire calculator web site I ran across, these tires turn 13.7% slower than the original tires. So when the speedo reads 60 I'm actually doing about 68. Isn't this kind of like having a double overdrive? Think this will put too much strain on the engine (with 20k miles on it), even though it's known to have good torque? I just drove it 4000 miles across country and it ran well although when going over the mountains I had to downshift into 4th gear at the steeper grades. I averaged 17.3 mpg highway when factoring in the 13.7%. Even though the tires & wheels look good on it I don't want to kill the engine because of them.
She has the 3.55 differentials with manual hubs. And not that it makes a difference (I think) but she's 4x4. Guess that explains why I only got 17.3 mpg
