does taller tires equal tranny problems
want to put taller tires on my 2000 f250 psd. have heard that it will cause tranny problems if i dont get the computer reprogramed to match tire size. anyone with experience on this subject?

How is it that taller tires, even over 37", will hurt the tranny? I understand that increasing the diameter of the tire will, in effect, numerically reduce the gear ratio of the rear end, but I don't see how damage would be a result.

I think the damage could result because of the effective reduction in gear ratio. Now its harder to turn the tires, especially from a stand still. More strain on the tranny. Kinda like taking off in 2 or 3rd on a manual. Worser still if you tow stuff. Just thinking out loud here, so take with a grain of salt. What part of the tranny would it be hard on? Maybe the torque converter?
Will reprograming the computer for the correct tire size change the tranny shift points or something else besides recalibrating the speedo?

I was just thinking along the lines of the wear from moving the taller tires, nothing to with shift points or anything of that matter. And not even an amount of wear that is detrimental, just more than normal.
