AC compressor clutch, help?

haynes manual says....well nothing.

Went out from work and no ac. Look under the hood to check compressor engagement and it looks like the clutch has come loos from the compressor.

I cant see how it attaches....almost looks like there might be an allen wrench bolt at the center of the shaft. Any ideas, or links to AC stuff for my truck?

looking at it in the daylight, it looks like the center bolt came out and there is rub damage to the clutch mechanism. Any idea what the bolt size for the center shaft is? Have tried several things to no luck so far. Looks like I am replacing some parts....

A shop that repairs AC compressors should be able to tell you what the bolt size it. it may even have one to sell to you. It maybe that you are looking at a compressor rebuild or replacement.

If you need to remove the compressor from the vehicle, you will need to recover the old refrigerant and replace it when the repaired or replaced compressor is installed. You may find that a shop is the best place to have the work done.

Let us know how you get along with solving your problem.

been needing to replace my serp belt and idler. So currently fighting alone with getting the clutch off the compressor, the idler off the engine, etc. tried removing the shroud and fan, but that went no where fast. Seems as if I have to hold the pully while turning the huge shaft bolt. Couldnt seem to figure that out, so am currently working around it. many grrrr, moments have been had so far

Alright, serp belt off, and compressor clutch off. Going to leave the idler alone for now. I KNOW the belt needs replacement. But not positive about the idler. Can leave that for another day where I am not doing an emergency repair.

Well, I got er did. new belt, new clutch assembly. Total of $123 from the autozone. Belt is a dayco 506883 which fit just right. Neighbor came by to check out what I was up to and showed me how to use a pipe wrench to hold the water pump pulley and get the fan/shroud out. Made all the difference in the world. Only thing that was a bit unexpected was when I put the clutch together the first time it was dragging when not engaged. Realized the package of washers was to shim it. Put two washers in, wouldnt engage at all. Pulled one so there was one still in there, worked perfect.
