I picked up a 352 FE for my 66 F100. Motor hasnt been run 3-5 years maybe more. Im going to do an overhaul on the motor but I may have a little more saving to do before that can happen. So I wa sthinking I would put it in the truck and suck some more life out of the old motor. So my question is how can I test to see if the engine will run before I put it in? Would doing a compreesion test the best thing to do or what do yall reccomend??
Will the motor turn by hand? If so I'd install it, remove the spark plugs, put a table spoon of trans fluid in the cylinders and let it sit over night. Then check the oil and everything, once it all seems to be ok hook up a oil pressure gauge and then crank the motor with the spark plugs out until you get oil pressure. Install the spark plugs and see if it will fire with some help from a squirt of starting fluid or a very small amoubt of gas poured down the carb.
Thanks NumberDummy, 66 crawler. As you can tell its a learning expeirence on the fly for me! Trial and error while trying to minimize the error. But the motor was running just a couple months ago so I was wrong yep I pulled the sparks plug and it turned freely!
