Auto parts stores usually are just trying to make money by "helping" you buy parts that don't help anything. 4.11 gears will help you go up hills, and they will help you get going in town, but you're going to be revved up a little more at speed. That should actually keep your truck in the powerband too. If you put headers alone on your motor it'll make a difference in the "seat dyno".
You stated before the truck has straight pipes, is the O2 sensor still connected and installed in the exhaust somewhere? If not you are running around in open loop mode all the time.
Those 31" tires are not helping your cause either. Amazing how much more power it takes to turn those things.

.
yea the o2 sensor is there its coneccted where the two pipes come close theres a lilttle like 5/8" OD pipe right there, where the o2 sensor is, that connects both of the pipes i dont know if its any good or not. its a true dual system on there now. and they aint acutally straight pipes there cherry bombs thats been blown out

whats open loop mode?
Open loop is when the PCM is running on the pre-programmed look up tables. The O2 sensor feedback is ignored. So regardless if the engine is really running rich or lean the PCM is going to dump in the amount of fuel it thinks the engine needs based on the programming instead of O2 sensor feedback data.
one more question guys does the 351w have more mid to high range torque than the 302? I know with chevorlets (yes i just said that do hate me lol) the 350 had no mid range torque where as the 305 had that.
my main concern is the umph it takes to pass someone at 45-55mph thats what i am lacking at the moment and thats what i would like
The 351w is a 302 with double the umph. Passing at 45-55 really is the trans and rear gears area. Trans needs to downshift to put the motor in the power band.

Man.. you been hanging around with some really crappy chevys, when a 305 outperforms the all conquering 350 things are bad.

This really has nothing to do with the engine size or brand, any vehicle can do this when setup properly even the 5.slow. Right now your motor is badly smothered and the mods suggested and in particular the cam and exhaust work will literally uncork this thing.
