T-19 Noise
I own an '85 F-350 with the 6.9 and a T-19. Just a question regarding the T-19 in general. This seems like a beastly transmission and has never failed to operate smoothly for me, but I've noticed that ever since I've had this truck, it has been a groaning and moaning son of a gun.
I've changed the oil in it and replaced with Lucas of the same grade (75w-90), but it's about the same. Oil coming out looking good. It's noisy in all gears, but it shifts perfect and has no slop in it. Truck has about 142,xxx on the clock and was purchased locally by an outfit just north of me. They used it for towing since new. It had a 10K cement hopper behind it most of the time.
I'm just curious if this is just how they are or if the years of towing are getting to it. Never been in another truck with a T-19 (besides my non-running '86), so I don't have another truck to gauge it against. Any help would be great.
But yes, it's pretty common for T-19s. I personally wouldn't worry about it. Just replace both bearings next time you do the clutch kit.

It has a new clutch, but I didn't do the job so I'm not sure what quality of material or workmanship the P.O. put into it. Thanks again.
