just bought 01

well as the title states i pulled the trigger on an 01 f-350srw long bed 4by4 and i have a couple of questions from some guys with experience because this is a whole new animal to me.it has stock exhaust and intake with 108972 on the odo.
1.it is wet after the turbo around the wires that go to it.not dripping wet but just enough to collect dust.is this something normal or do i need to look into it?
2.i noticed it has a garret turbo.so iam assuming the turbo was replaced at some point?
3.i dont plan to tow more than 10k right now and no more than maybe 80 miles at a time.should i get gauges asap or can they wait till i get some cash saved up for exhaust and intake?
4.the manual says 15,000 miles for fuel filter.is it wise to change every oil change?
5.should i run diesel supplement such as diesel kleen every fill-up?
thanks for the help guys first diesel.i want to learn as much as possible to avoid un needed repairs.i been reasearching alot lately.

Wires that go into the turbo? no such thing. That is probably a stock turbo. gauges are good but not necessary unless you have a chip. It is always nice, even w no chip to monitor tranny temps when towing. The stock gauge seems to have 1 temp when warmed up and will never show that it is overheating. My aftermarket tranny gauge moves a lot compared to the stocker. No need for suplement the injectors dont like it. 15k is good for a fuel filter.

ok the wires are in front of the turbo.where the intercooler lines run up front.i should have been more specific.right around the boots and clamps that is where the little bit of oil seepage is but from research thats not to uncommon?the turbo says garret on one side and 1.00mm on the other?my truck dont have a tranny guage in it at all.i will have to spend alot more time browsing topics on here so i gain alot more knowledge on everything.thanks again

It should have a tranny temp gauge in the cluster. Turbo is stock. The oil seepage is why people do the ccv mod. The stock ccv makes the inside if the intercooler and pipes oily. But that also means you prob have a little boot leak. Boots need to be cleaned and tightened. But make sure you do not over tighten so you don't dent or crush pipes.

Congrats on the truck. Only think that didn't get answered is the fuel filter question. I see no reason to change it every oil change, diesel can get very picky if you go to long though. I change at 15,000 with no problems so far. Also might we to check the SCA level in your coolant if you have the green coolant. You can get test strips at napa. Don't want that level messed up because the coolant can start eating your water pump, block and injector cups. Just a good thing to check.

One thing I'd do and problibly most would recommend is change ALL your fluids, beings you bought it used you'll feel better knowing everythings fresh and up to par. There's plenty of info here from doing a trans flush to changing your fuel filter to a power steering flush, all important IMO (in my opinion). Guys, I thought stock turbos have a .84 exhaust housing?? My 38R BB turbo has the 1.00 exhaust housing. Wonder if he does have a bigger turbo in it. Welcome to FTE.

The intake side of the turbo is 1.00. I just replaced my stock housing last weekend and it said 1.00 on it.

Yup, '02 is the first year of the tranny temp gauge in the cluster...which is a completely useless gauge and a waste of space.

Get yourself a good set of gauges including a tranny temp one if you plan on towing anything bigger than a rowboat.
