Hey, just thought I'd show off my bumper design a little. It still needs a lot of sanding, some stain and brass hardware but it's getting there.

ok, stop freaking out. This is just my mock up, real one will be Steel. I just didn't have any cardboard, but do have tons of MDF. I still have more to do on it and want to make the mount as solid as possible, but that's no biggie. I'm making both front and rear, but I have a front I can use for a while if need be (no rear). Still a LOOOONG way to go to get the Scab on the road, but it sure feels nice to get even these little things done. I'll keep adding more as I get it done.
Just an idea....After your done with your bumpers, I say cut up the mockup and resize the pieces as individual templates for cutting pieces out of steel plate with a plasma cutter. Everything should be about 1/4-inch smaller (Depending on the thickness of the MDF and the plasma gun).
I could make the MDF bumper pretty strong, but it doesn't like being wet. One good rain and I'd have a pretty swollen bumper.
Thanks for the comments. I've been debating on either cutting all the pieces out myself with my dads plasma cutter or getting it all laid out and having it cut/bent at a machine shop. I used to program lasers, so somewhere around here I have the formulas for bends and how much material to add. It would be nice to make the whole face/top/step out of one piece then bend it into shape. We'll see..
I'm gonna make the mounts out of 1/2" steel and have it come through the face to use as a mount for shackles. Figure I'll make the bumper out of 1/4" maybe. I want it to be heavy and solid. The truck can handle it.
Thanks. yeah, it looks pretty close to an original style, but is just enough bigger and gonna be a lot stronger. I want to keep the curved ends to match the truck and they'll be covered with steel, this MDF just won't do it. It's been raining so I'm on hold for a few days, then I'll start figuring out the mounting.
I also have to deal with our lift laws here, so I have a couple ideas I'm gonna try out to get around that. Bottom of the bumper has to be 24" from the ground, right now I'm at 25" and I haven't got my 35's or my 6" lift on it. :P
I've got a 2" body lift on it too, so I think the gap covered nicely.
