So the options are bringing one of the door locks to a locksmith, or changing out the ignition switch.
I have see the instructions from searches of removing the cylinder without a key. However, does this require removing the steering wheel completely?
Would a flathead to the cylinder with vice grips do the trick in breaking it out?
This is what I'm referring too:
user: quicklook2
-no pics but this is how to do it:
i posted before how ford manual says to do if key broke off or lost keys to get cylinder out. here it is again:
-disconnect battery ground cable.
-remove steering wheel.
-using channel lock pliers or vise grips, twist lock cylinder cap until it seperates from the lock cylinder.
-using a 3/8" diameter drill, drill down middle of ignition key slot approx. 44mm (1-3/4") until lock cylinder breaks loose from breakaway base of lock cylinder. remove lock cyl. and drill shavings from the lock cylinder housing.
DO NOT DRILL TO DEEP!
-remove retainer, washer, ignition switch and actuator. thoroughly clean drill shavings and all other foreign materials from casting.
-carefully inspect lock cyl. housing for damage from the above operation. if damage is apparent, housing must be replaced.
So checking the FSM the instructions seem just a little different. Can anyone just confirm that drilling through the tumblers to the key length will let me fit a flathead in there to turn it to the run position?
2. Drill down to about 1-1/2" through the keyhole until the cylinder was able to turn with a flathead (I saw the brass clips on the sides of the cylinder come off as well)
3. turned it to run and then used an icepick to push the pin through the bottom of the steering wheel
4. inserted the new cylinder as is/ out of the box with keys and turned it to off
5. started the engine, and everything is good in all positions.
Never would of got the idea without this forum tho. Thanks.
Although this may be too late. The easiest way is to take the vin number to the dealer, get a key code, take it to a locksmith and have a key cut from their computer system. This is cheaper, and alot easier.

Only issue is thier records only go back like 6 years or something so they told me to get a locksmith.
This fix doing it myself cost me $12.99 and 60 minutes
