i just took out my 4.0l out of my 2001 4x4 sport trac... i rebuilt it and replaced almost everything. did a whole new timing kit and cleaned it from top to bottom.
the problem is i put it back in and now there is water getting into the 4th 5th and 6th cylinder side.... i have no idea where its coming from and the only thing i can think of is the headgasket is blown.
You should deck the head and block before you reassemble. If you skipped this step, then a failed head gasket is not just likely, its pretty much a given. I learned this the hard way, though on a much easier to work on engine.
Also, do NOT reuse the head bolts, they are torque to yield type, so once they have been torqued down once, they cannot be retightened.
If you deck the block, you should do both sides, you can get a good straightedge and check for flatness, the block should only be decked if it needs it. The head should be checked as well, and if any warpage is detected, it much be resurfaced. Use new head bolts each time, and torque them down in the sequence outlined, and recheck the torque after letting everything settle for a few minutes at least. After you are sure the head is torque down, move on to the torque to yield step, which is a certain amount of torque angle that is applied afterwards.
