i bought 2011 f-250 6.7 diesel an getting only 12 to14 mpg all around driving got 373 gears , an that is empty when 1st got it got 18 mpg had 17inch wheels an tires an i put 20inch tires an wheels on it an it has been droping ever since .has anyone out there had this problem . it was one of the 1st 6.7s built.
Are the new tires larger than the stock ones? This will make you use more fuel. In addition, if you put on bigger tires and didn't have your speedometer recalibrated, this will throw off your MPG calculations.
You may want to double check your gearing as well. If it's a 6.7, it should have either 3.31 or 3.55 gears unless someone has changed the gears in it. In the F-250 and F-350 SRW, those are the only two ratios available with the diesel. That said, if someone has put 3.73s in it, it will cause more fuel consumption.
As suggested above, you may want to get it flashed for the different tire size in order for the computer to know what size tire you're running as it relates to calculating MPGs. Also, the larger tires are going to create more rolling resistance and are heavier than the OE 17s. Many little things but they all cut into your overall fuel economy.
Thought that the speedo got it's info from the front wheel sensor, NOT the tranny. If so the bigger tires ain't gonna change it....
Sure it will. The sensor simply counts wheel revolutions, which are converted into distance traveled based on the stock tire size. Change the tire size and you change the distance traveled per revolution.
i cked the mph with a garmin it is dead on it . sometimes the fuel filter under the hood will make a loud humming noise for awhile you can hear it it is loud an then it will quit
