Question 2010 SuperDuty -- Pros and Cons

Hi all,

I'm in the market for a slightly used 2010 SD SRW F250 CC 4x4 V10 Auto Lariat.

So...any known issues in that model year I should watch for??? Suspension issues? Auto tranny issues? Pros and cons...please...

Thanks!

Ok...no responses must mean the 2010 SD's are pretty spot on! Which is GREAT! Makes me feel very comfortable making the purchase...and not having to worry about CONS of the truck.

If not...please chime in...

2010 is the last year of the v10 (for a 250 or 250) and the last year of the 5100 tranny. Both are solid, I don't think you'll hear anyone complain about either here.

Sounds like a sweet truck. Post up some picks if you get 'er done!

The only thing I would recommend is to change spark plugs at 50,000 mile intervals. Other than that these truck are very reliable.

I'm running the same truck, but in a F350 costume. About to pass 34,000 awesome miles. I've had a few problems, but nothing that's problematic for the model year.

Budget for 10mpg and pull the trigger if the price is right!

Why?

On my 2000 F250 5.4 I changed 7 of the plugs at 170,000 miles and one is still original at 242,000 miles.

I could maybe see every 100,000 miles but not 50,000, although it can't hurt.

They were having problems with spark plug designs for a while and they were blowing out or breaking upon changing. I think he is just making a point that it is cheaper to change them at 50,000 then have to tear off a head to get them out.

No more 6.2 venture?

You won't regret the V10 (which you already know)...

Actually...just keeping my options open. Was thinking I never actually gave the 2010 model V10 a chance...and if I find the right truck with the right price...then jump on it.

With that said...the 2012 6.2L SD...is still on my radar.

Just like keep those options open...and knowing any issues that might be common.

Excellent advise. That is what I recommend my to my customers. There is a lot less carbon to deal with if you change them early and less chance of breaking them.

BTW, the V10 is a great engine.

Thanks for backing me up Parts Jimmy.

The key to long engine life is maintenance. I change my oil and oil filter, air filter every 3,000 miles. In fact the longest I have ever gone before changing the oil is 4400 miles. I have my trans fluid changed at the dealer every spring and every other spring the pan is dropped and the filter and fluid is changed. Fuel filter is changed when trans filter is changed. I might be a little more **** than others when it comes to maintenance but I think it's worth it.

I have a 2008 v10 which is as you know the same engine and tranny as a 2010. Its been perfect as far as reliability goes. I would recommend getting a 2010 over a new 6.2 simply for the price difference- you have a ton of haggling power on that v10 especially now with the price of gas. I get around 10mpg combined- up to 13.5 on the highway with 4.10 gears- crew cab Lariat 4x4. I bought my loaded ( Lariat, back up camera, leather, heated seats etc.) truck for $28k with 19k miles on it a year ago. They wanted $36k- it sat on the lot for 5 months and they finally took $28k- the mpg reader in dash said 6.8 mpg when I picked it up and it apparently kept scaring any potential buyers! The cheapest I have heard of a new 6.2 is in the low 40s- and i just don't see it being at a minimum a 10k to 15k worth more of a truck.

Thumbs up

fullpoints79 --- I hear you! That is really why it is such a hard decision for me. The 2010 V10 Auto seems to be an excellent truck.

So...I priced out a 2012 SD 6.2L CC Lariat with all the bells and whistles. Then...pricing the 2010 SD V10 CC Lariat with almost everything...I mean real close...and pretty loaded. For asking price...I save 16k. Of course...it's hard to predict what one would offer and accept dollar wise.

What I am happy about...is that the 2010 is such a solid truck!

That is true, I think I have just been lucky with my truck, and have been told I shouldn't expect the same out of other trucks.

I would think since I spent 27k on my 2000 5.4 F250 and double that on my 6.2 21012 Superduty, I should get at least as many miles without any issues.

With the 2011 and newer trucks you get the new transmission. From what I've heard it is pretty sweet. But that price difference is huge. From what limited reading I've done, the 6.2 tows really well, but there isn't a huge MPG difference between the V8 and V10.

Whatever way you go, time is on your side. The more fuel goes up, the less "valuable" these trucks are on the lots. Especially the V10.
