1990 Bronco II, 2.9 Auto 4x4. Starts fine, runs fine. Sometimes while stopped in gear, RPM's will drop a little, then go back up.

The real problem...after running a little while, truck will die. When trying to restart, there is no click or any noise at the starter solenoid. Lights, gauges, all electrical still work, just no response at the solenoid. Truck sits a few minutes, then, miraculously, I try again and it starts like nothing was ever wrong.

Could the solenoid be going bad or are they an 'either it works or it doesn't' kind of part?
Something else in the ignition I can check?

Check all your battery connections for corrosion (green in the cables behind the terminals) check your grounds, if still no start, move on and replace the solenoid.

 

Would a starter solenoid cause the truck to die? I know a bad one will keep one from dying..........

 

Sounds like a bad ground.
