Joe is right - the issues will *eventually* be worked out. The problem is all those guys like someone pointed out who laid out hard earned bucks to get their dream truck only to see if sit in a dealers bay waiting for ford to do *something* while making their payments.

IMO, until these issues are worked out, ford should be prohibited from building or selling any more of these trucks/engine combos. People should not have to pay $40k for a engineering test vehicle for ford.

To all those guys who ridicule people complaining - congratualtions on your financial success, but you're in the minority. Most people are hard put to make a $500/mo payment on a vehicle they can't drive! I'd like to see someone file a class action suitand have ford pick up the monthly on any truck that breaks due to known issues until it's fixed once and for all.

Another one bites the dust

Calibergrl I work in the shop at a Ford dealer. I dont work on diesels much at all but we do use all the normal Ford resources that are available to us to fix them.....that includes a few different online services. We can also call Ford's technical Hotline for advice from engineers there. We do get told quite often that there is no fix for certain problems but they are working on it. We get as frustrated as you do....or more so. It's not fun telling a customer that you dont know what to do to fix their truck. It doesnt exactly make us look good in their eyes.
The last few years Ford has been really bad about rushing new things out into the marketplace with not nearly enough testing and tuning. They rely on us to figure out what's wrong with their vehicles. And they dont usually pay us much to fix them either.
Some of the bonehead ideas that Ford tries selling really make us shake our heads.
Have you seen the latest idea to fix the rad hose clamps that break all the time? Now from the factory they come with the junk spring type clamp and also a small older style screw clamp. Why not just put one good clamp on it?
When the 7.3 DIs came out there were a lot of problems with them too. It took a while but they got them figured out and are excellent now. I'm sure the 6.0 will be a good engine after a while too.

Because the junk clamp comes GLUED on from the hose manufacturer. Ford obviously saves enough in parts and assembly costs to absorb some warranty costs on the other end.

Simple economics. A $2 saving during assembly with a resulting $1 increase in warranty costs still puts $1 in Ford's pocket.

Screw-type clamps have there own problems. They loosen up and proper torque during assembly is an issue.

Ford has done the math and concluded that the clamps that it uses saves it money in the long run.
