I am about to change my coolant on my 2003 F-150 5.4
The repair manual shows drain plugs on both sides of the engine block but I can only see the one on the drivers side. Will this one drain the whole block or do I have to find and drain the passenger side as well?
Take a look near the starter that is where it is on my SD. Not knowing the total volumn I normally drain radiator and fill with distilled water. Using a A/C temp. Gauge inserted to a vent I drive until the meter reads about 170-180 with the heater on. Yeah that part sucks but it cleans out the heater core also. and then drain repeat twice. For my SD there is about three gallons of water left in the block, and top off with three gallons of extended life coolant. I would think you can use the same process and adjust volume accordingly. Then I add a bottle of RMI 25.
Hope helps a bit.

buy a plastic TEE at Auto Zone and put into the heater core hose above #2 COP. COnnect the garden hose and let it blast away for 15 minutes... that will flush everything out and your ready to refill.
There's no petcock pn the lower right side of the radiator? That's where it's at on my '97. I guess you could remove the lower radiator hos to get more out but that is a PITA. Just use a fill and empty at the petcock until the water is clean with good heat coming out of the heater. It usually takes 3 fills and drains for me.
I use distilled water because it's cheap at the grocery store and doesn't add crappy contaminants into the system that normal tap water does.

i fill and drain with distilled water when done, but opening the drain on the radiator and running the garden hose thru the heater hose and flushing 50 gallons of water thru the system will push out any old crap inside. drain and blow out with air. fill with distilled and flush, then put in the antifreeze.
Thanks for all the replies and tips. I am flushing with Prestone super cleaner right now, the coolant was pretty yellow/brownish , it has been neglected!
