YES YOU CAN!! A friend of mine did hone them out using a rod machine. You might look at bushing the small end on the 400 rod also.

I did with a set of older TRW forged 351C pistons. It would depend on how much meat is under the pin and subtract the amount of material removed and then determine if there's sufficient strength there afterwards. Only thing about this is the 351C pistons are still far short of the deck at TDC.

My block is cut 0.25 so the pistons would be about 0.42 dekk height

YES YES YES you can. I just did it!!! There is really NO big mystery of doing this. Take a 351C piston, set it aside...NOW take your STOCK 351M/400 rod and have your machinest put a 292 bushing in the SMALL end and hone it to fit the 351C pin.... EASY. Now you have a full floating piston in your choice of 351C configurations of flat top to whatever you you want for compression. Discression IS the better part of what Octaine you want to run or what is available at the pump or your wallet!!! not SURE ask me Popa John

On second thought, I wonder if it's possible to install a bushing in the 400 rods, then offset the hole towards the end of the rod, thereby moving the piston closer to the deck ? And also remeber that to use floating pins, you'll need spiro loc grooves in the pin bores, unless you plan to use buttons to retain the pins.

yeah what baddad said. did a set last year works great. piston is still down the hole around .045 give or take. have some photos in my albums on what i did and many others if curious. on the off set makes me nervous due to thin bushing on one side. might open the door to rod end failure?? not sure on this plus indexing each rod bushing perfect could be interesting?

The OD will need to be a hair more than the 400 rod's hole. The Id will need to be a tad smaller than the 351C pin diameter. The reason I had mine opened up to the 400's pin was it seemed easier to go this route than bushing the rods. In the end my machinist had to order a special tool to open the pin bores up. It's really not an economical operation, unless you've already got the pistons in hand. You'd do better buying the correct pistons from TMI at least that way, you'll get a zero deck piston.

bush the rod ends easier.

bush the rod ends for simplist route. then set clearance .0008, less than 1 thousanths. bushing the rods is a simple procedure and not difficult for any decent machine shop.
