272 ci with ECY engine code?
Posted in other F100 forum also then found this one and thought it may be better. The engine in my 1955 F100 has ECY code on side. I was told it was 272 heavy duty? Can anyone tell me any more info about it?
One thing it points out is an often overlooked set of heads which would be a big improvement over the C1TEs that so many guys are using. The C1AE is 72 cc compared to CITE of 76cc. Put in some 1.78-1.84 intakes, mill them .022 or so, and vroom. Or leave the intakes as is.
there's an old post right here
that say's manual list's that casting
code as HD Truck 272.
the poster was 'Happy Sammy' or
something like that.
here it is.

Have A Nice Day!
after reading all these posts, and looking for ECY, I still didn't find any info on them. Since one user indicated that ECY was mentioned in his (Canadian?) manual, is it possible that the designation was a Canadian (or other country) engine code?
There were of course HD Y-blocks in later years in Medium and Heavy (F-600 and larger) trucks. The crankshafts were steel and heads got sodium filled valves......... Other parts were slightly different too I presume.
Racing enthusiasts usually wanted the steel crankshafts. I don't know if anyone uses sodium filled valves any more.(Lycoming and Continental has used them in aircraft engines)
In any case, if you're planning to use that 272 in your F-100 and you want to rebuild it, you'll be able to use most "normal" Y-block parts.
I suggest you find a machine shop that has an old timer working there that has worked with Y-blocks before or contact John Mummert FORD Y to get the best info....

I was going to use the ECR A pair in a project, since they are basically the same as C's, with 73 cc chambers. But they were both cracked.
