I have a question I am sure of you guys could help me with. What were the different engine options available for 1964 F100 trucks when they were purchased new and the codes. Thank you in advance. Joe

the 1964 trucks had one V8 and 2 6 cylinder engines... The 292 was code D for the 4 bbl w/153HP@3800 and the 292 with 2 bbl was code C with 135 HP @ 3800
The 6 cylinderswere both 1 bbl, the 223was code J with 114HP @3600 and the 262 was code B with 132 HP @ 3600

The D code 292 4 barrel was only available in F500 and larger trucks.

It was not available in F100/350's.

It's also a different engine than a 292 2 barrel. The D code is a heavy duty 292.

Look in your parts catalog, section 60.4 for the differences.

Where can i get one of these parts catalogs? Is there a catalog that lists the orignal part numbers as well? There are a couple of basic part numbers that i would like to check on.

The 1964/72 Ford Truck Parts Catalog is available on a CD from hipoparts.com / Also sold on ebait for a buy it now price of $22.00 or so.

camperspecial65, AirHarley, myself, et al are using this CD on FTE.

However, there's a caveat.

Ford updates 1000's of part numbers a year...plus, they changed the package quantity of 1000's of parts in the late 1980's long after this catalog, and the 1973/79 catalog reached their final printing. When they did that, they changed the part numbers suffix.

So, if you have a part number for an item you need, and can't find it anywhere, there's two possible reasons why. The part itself is obsolete, or the part number is obsolete!

There are catalogs that update part numbers: O.S.I. = Obsolete-Supercede-Interchange. But they only apply to certain years, and the catalogs are very hard to find because when Ford went to microfiche, then to computers, most of these catalogs went into the circular file.

I have the O.S.I. catalogs that matter: The ones that cover 1948/79. I also have the O.S.I. microfiche slides, so if you need an updated part number, just ask.

The parts catalogs are not user friendly. There are no search features. To find the part number for an item, first you have to find the illustration where the basic (group) number is shown.

Then you have to go to the text to find the actual complete part number. Sounds EZ, right? It may be..it may not be.

Since I was a Ford partsman for over 35 years, I've memorized at least 10,000 basic part numbers.

So I rarely have to look at illustrations. Truth be told on 1965/79 F100/350's and 1955/73 cars, I prolly have the entire part number memorized.

Who needs a catalog?
