Need Help and advice

Hi yall Great Site! I am new and a new super duty F450 owner !!!

I just purchased a 1999 Ford F450 with the 7.3 Power Stroke Diesel Dually from my employer. It has 100,000 miles on it and is pretty clean

The truck had the motor rebuilt last year and it broke down again the high pressure pump line broke and some shade tree machanic tried to fix it and stripped out the threads on the high pressure pump so yep I had to purchase the high pressure pump and new lines anyway my employer bought new trucks and did not want to put anymore money into this truck so they told me I could have it if I pay the bill to get it out of the shop.

They did a complete bumper to bumper service ($400.00)and said the truck checked out fine tires are new , brakes are great etc... so they replaced the lines and high pressure pump and $3000.00 later its all mine The truck has a steel flat bed on it with sides and a 1800lb lift gate. I want to remove the flat bed and lift gate and put a dually bed back on it.

I found one at a junk yard in good shape and complete tail lights, tail gate and finders for $1000.00 but was courious as to what years will fit a 1999 I hear all the way up to 2008 is this correct? I am selling the flatbed with lift gate to a truck shop, we have not decided on a price yet not sure what its worth, any ideas? Also I heard the 6.0 diesels were crap but since this is the 7.3L that is was a good year for the motor, is this true?

Hoping by the time I sell the steel bed and buy the dually bed to have about $2000 to $2500 into this truck

Thanks in advance for all the help
Dom

Congratulations and Welcome.

Body parts up to '08 will bolt right up. Really the bed is only subtly different on '08+ obviously the front end is a completely different story though. But can and has been made to work.

7.3 Powerstroke engines from 97-2003 are primarily the same, some subtle differences. Only a real issue when going for high HP

Damn, great score!

You should bet a bed for an 08. Many have done the tailgate and taillight swap and they look great.

That's awesome getting to fish with your son. And in the Delta no less!

75% of my tournaments are in Clear Highland Reservoirs, the other 25% are traditional river/backwater lakes.
