Thumbs up Replaced wrecked '02 OEM long bed with '16 OEM long bed

The (steel bed) bed contours of the Super Dutys 1999-2016 surprisingly are the same, with same qty 8, Torx 55 bed bolts. Note - the contours changes with the 2017 aluminum Super Duty bed. If you live in an area where rust and corrosion is a problem, you may not be able to back out the OEM self tapping bed bolts and you may break a Torx bit or two. Ours bolts backed out clean being a clean southwest USA truck. A set of new bed bolts with c-frame clips cost $35-$65 and you'll also need one or two Torx 55 bits if your current Torx set doesn't have that size.

Photo shows the '16 bed installed on the '02, and in the back, a F-150 bed "loveseat" for our shop, the bed replacement company sold us along with the new, the F-150couch was fabbed from a front-end damaged F150 bed.

The clocking of the fuel filler is off (early style to new) but three self tappers fix that. Also wiring harness needs mods. The early bumper works , and you can upgrade to the newer bumper but the spare tire crank-down hold is on the wrong side (right side of license plate, vice correct left side).
New take off beds are usually available for sale at or near businesses that sell install aftermarket utility or flat beds. This is when having a white truck is a plus nearly all take off beds came off white work trucks. They are looking to move these take-off beds off their lots. 3/4 and 1 ton trucks (of all brands) that get utility beds installed understandably have their often new or newer beds removed and these can be purchased inexpensively. No need to get a used dented bed that needs expensive body work, clean-up, and painting. Also, the older Super Duty Powerstroke trucks can use gas truck beds since you don't need the DEF urea filler opening in your older Super Duty. it has a rubber blanking plate where the DEF/urea filler would be.

The "why story" behind the bed replacement is two BFG Rugged Terrain TA tires (2 years old, 14,000 miles, properly loaded, and properly inflated, BFG Rugged Terrain LT285/75R16 Load Range E 3,750 lbs. Load Range E) on the Ford forged OEM rims, suffered tread separation at freeway speed within 6 months, including the latest with a full 360 separation that caused an accident destroyed one side of the bed (causing a flipped cargo trailer, punched the tailgate and damaged driver's side of bed). We opted for a brand new 2016 bed on the '02.

We got rid of/planning to get rid of the remaining BFG tires on our diesels going with US made (Cooper) Mastercraft Courser AXT on the Excur. Due to new warranty replacements, on the damaged '02 truck, we added two BFG ATs but won't buy any BFGs the rest of our consumer/business lives after this experience. Got stuck with Ford installed BFGs on a '16 PSD Dually, will replace those with non-BFGs when that time comes.

I have seen the add's for New take off beds.. and bumpers...
I hope to get a rear bumper soon... Black one.

Thanks for pointing out the new style bumpers have the tire hoist hole on the other side.New take off bumpers here sell for $200 black,$300 chrome.
