fuel pump?
I have a 78 351m. Over the last 2 weeks when I accelerate up from a stop to 45-55 mph my truck will chug like its running out of gas then it will pass thru it and keep running like normal..it happens without rhyme or reason but only between those speeds. I replaced the factory fuel filter this past winter so I wouldnt think its that. I do have an additional fuel filter beneath the cab of truck that I have yet to replace. But I would think it would happen at all speeds not just isolated to those I listed. How do i determine if my fuel pump is going bad? Btw I had my carb rebuilt last year so does that rule it out? It also seems like its a gas issue not a tranny issue because its not having difficuly shifting just feels like its running outta gas

You need to put a fuel psi gauge in the line after the pump and see what it is putting out. A truck will run ok with just 2 or 3 psi but when you put a load on it, like going up a grade it will cut out. You want to see at least 6 psi all the time usually stock pumps put out about 7 psi.
