is this feesable?

I have a 2000 f250 SD supercab off road 4x4 v10 with 68,000 miles on it. Thinking about selling it and buying 94-97 f250 with 5.8l, would it be worth it to drop back in years and go up in miles to save 3-4mpgs? I have only one truck, daily driver/playing and farming. I love this truck but seems like fuel light is always on I guess in all reality I'm SOL as far as mpgs go in a full size truck, in the country, tons of short trips and very lil highway driving

i wouldnt expect that older gen F250 to get any better MPG.

not to mention the cost offset of getting out of 1 truck into another. unless you managed to find a buyer to pay you more for your current truck then you planned to spend on the older truck.

I can't imagine selling a 2000 V10 with 68k miles on it. That just seems like a crime. Having said that, I'm hating the fuel bills lately too. But my '96 F150 only got about 11mpg, so I doubt you'll see any fuel savings.

How about the additional repair costs with the older vehicle with more miles? You'll need to figure that into the equation also.

You'll regret it the first time you ever have to pull a trailer or haul anything. I went from an F250 to a K1500 and hated it. Even pulling a dinky pop up trailer was a night and day difference between the two. In case you are wondering, the K1500 is gone and I'm hoping to have an 02 F350 w/ a V10 this Friday.

Also, you'll be going from an extended cab to a regular cab. Not fun when you are used to have the extra room. The only way I'd do that is if I were buying a classic like a 71 chevy K series pickup or 70 Ford ranger.

If you tow much weight keep that v10. My 94 f250 5.8 averaged about 13-14 (5-speed & Ohio=flat). Towing mpg's were much, much less. I got 16.5 once after a fresh tune up and all flat running highway miles.(ONCE!) Mpg's increase wouldn't be dramatic. Plus your trucks just getting broken in @ 68000. My 94 was a great truck, but I think you will be very disappointed (no disrespect to ygoldsberry) with the downgrade. Buy yourself a little gas miser, and keep the v10. Drive the v10 once or twice a week or when you need an awesome truck that can do whatever you need it too. (Including look good in the driveway!)
