I have a vibration coming from the rear. I put new tires on yesterday. Nitto terra grapplers 285*75*16.
Still it vibrates. I'm on the verge of doing a complete driveshaft overhaul very soon. The u_joints look a little worn but I can't feel any slop. I have watched a few videos on the slip yoke. How do you fix the slip yoke.
A Ford mechanic friend and I are just starting to diagnose a drive train vibration in mine, too. The frequency suggests drive shaft or u-joint, but there's nothing obvious yet.
I won't get to check anything until this weekend, but the recommendation is that if none of the u-joints appear "at fault" (no slop, wear marks, grease, shiny metal, etc.) it's probably the front u-joint or the drive shaft bearing if the Ex is equipped with a split drive shaft.
Thought that I'd share that in case anyone was inclined to do some diagnostics in the next couple of days....
I also have a vibration and talked to my mechanic. He said it is most likely the rear u-Joint. I will start there since it is a cheap fix, worst case, i have a new U-Joint if that isn't the problem.
I had crazy bad vibrations and could not figure it out, checked u joints they looked fine checked everything it all looked fine and tight. Dropped the shaft to lube up the slip joint. put the shaft on a jack stand and gave it a wiggle. The rear ujoint was shot. Funny thing is when the shaft was connected their was no noticeable play in the joint. I think the slip joint takes up the slack but still will cause the vibrations. I recommend dropping the shaft and then checking.
I checked mine over last weekend and found no play, oil, or signs of wear on and of the u-joints. (And with a 1-piece driveshaft there is no carrier bearing to worry about.)
U-joints are cheap I'm going to take the same approach that you did -- replace the mains and see what happens....
