You're reinforcing my point. Had the P.O. properly registered the cab change then you would have had no problem.
LOL, reconstructed/salvage brands on everything I've ever owned except two. This 94 I just bought is one of that two.
I hear you. The issue with reconstruction titles in MD is, once it's been branded w/ a reconstruction title it can't be re-titled ever again, so you are basically stuck with the vehicle until it goes to the scrap yard or someone uses it for parts or runs it on their private property without any license plates.
It looks better in the photo than it does in person. Also it needs a right door, rocker and cab corner...........
Thus MY interest in cab swaps. I snatched this 94 4x2 long bed up as it was headed to the scrapper. Said it ran good but 5th gear is out. Same year, same drive train even same color.
steve. i see you got a great parts truck there! youll make your money back on the bed alone! in all seriousness, check with the nc dmv and see what there policy is on doing such with a different cab, as long as you have both titles, i cant see a certified inspector not allowing you to swap tags

Already spoke to the NCDMV inspector. Vehicle VIN's are Federal jurisdiction not state and no you cannot switch a VIN. In my case there is nothing "shady" about cab swapping but it's still a no-no.

Thanks. It'll be decent eventually.
It was between a F150 4x4 4.9L SB and a Ranger 4x4 4.0L extended cab. The 150 will get MPG's close to what the Ranger would and be able to pull my car trailer so the Ranger lost out.
I did this on my last truck here in Iowa. Got ahold of the dmv here, asked them before i did it. They said both trucks had to be in my name. After swapping the cabs a state inspector had to come out and verifiy that the frame and cab vins matched the titles. He then affixied a new state assinged vin to the door jam, and gave me the paper work to take do the dot to get a new title for it.
That's how they do it here if the cab and chassis are not the same year. If the same year they just merge the VINs and in NC they keep the chassis number as the title number, as NC is a "chassis state". That would work fine for me since the title will still indicate a 4x4.

So far to my understanding, Florida looks at the cab tag only. They first goto the door jam sticker but usually they are faded or painted over. Then the dash tag and sometimes the underhood stamp. Never heard of them checking a frame or engine unless requested.
