Need some more help and advice
The problem first started when the truck died on the highway, got it towed to the shop and pulled the filters and they were full of that lining Ford did from the factory to protect the tank.
Got the tank relined, cleaned out the fuel pump, blew out all the fuel lines from the secondary filter back to the tank....Put new FORD filters in it...started it and still the same thing, truck ran for about 2.5/3 hours to ensure the air is out of it....turned the key to cycle the pump probably 50 times.
The truck will idle ROUGH and it has the injector knock, eventually rough idle so bad it dies...checked FICM 48V+ almost always, even when the truck dies out, Check fuel pressure
Stays at that the whole time even when the truck dies out...So I pulled the IPR, screen looked new.....
So, I went ahead and pulled all 8 injectors....one looked pretty bad, a lot of carbon build up on the tip, could not see the holes on the nozzle....and 2 others were similar but not as bad as that one...
I got the OKAY from the owner of the company to replace all 8 injectors, but before I go spend 2K at Ford for injectors.....Does it seem like this could be the problem? I also am going to do the standpipes and dummy plugs when im in there, along with the blue fuel spring upgrade....
Any advice is great. Thanks.
NO CEL whatsoever....scanned it with 2 different scanners
It seems likely culprit that the fuel filters pluged and it ran low fuel press and Killed injectors
A cylinder Balance test or Ballon test would more than likely confirm bad Injectors like your thinking. Do you have a computer that will do a cylinder balance test?????
Im thinking replacing all injectors is your Best Bet too
What is the HPO ICP and IPR% at Idel and High Idel 2500 rpm????
i'm jus formulating a theory. low oil pressure could also affect the fuel pressure as well, since our fuel pressure is assisted by the oil pressure.
i could be wrong but it's my 2 cents. dont kill the worm.
When I check pressure it was in the 20's/25's So I know we have sufficent pressure for it to run.
I just hope its going to be fixed after injector replacement.
I forgot, whats the injector hold down bolt tq #?
Sounds like injectors to me too.
Dom, He doesn't have low fuel pressure he has about 52 psi (well it is low for idle but within specs). Also what do you mean by checking the HPOP? there are very few failures on HPOP's, and basicly if it will start the pump is fine. 1 more thing to point out here. Fuel pressure is not effected at all by HPO. The HPO is used to drive the plunger in the injector to make it fire, but has no effect on fuel pressure. Not picking on the DOM just making sure anyone that comes here gets a good understanding of the what not's
I know when I had my 6.0 and everytime I had an injector fail...it would knock...
Never when I had a HPO problem.
On a side note if your going to be working on these much, you might want to try and get a good scanner, AE at the least. There worth there weight in gold. That would really help to pin point injectors.

The fuel tank was relined, blew out all fuel lines, cleaned out the fuel pump, changed fuel filters, 8 new injectors, updated standpipes and dummy plugs, blue spring upgrade, and an oil change, and it runs like a top now!
Drove about 50 miles with it yesterday and all seems well.
Thanks for the help
