HELP

I just bought an 87 BII Eddie Bauer for my daughter, low miles good looking. Problem is we were driving it one evening and it shut down totally, no power no lights, nothing. I investigated next morn and found the orange and black wire from the solenoid was burned in two. I replaced it with a similar size of wire (in between the black round thing in the line and solenoid) i connected neg to battery and the wire burned through. I traced it to the split where 2 fuse links are and where it turns to a yellow wire to the inside of the cab. Right before the split there is a pin connector that I disconnected, hooked up the battery and no burned wire. Apparently there is a short somewhere from the gray connector to the inside of the cab. I'm not that handy with electrical issues but can figure out basics. 2.9 engine. I replaced the starter solenoid. Thank you

I just picked one up, had to order it. Do you know of any "common" areas to start? Thank you very much for the help
