No Power

No Power
Had a friend helping and they connected the battery backwards, started smoking and disconnected. Now we have no power to anything although you can jump across the solenoid and the engine will turn over. Any suggestions would help. This is on a 1984 Bronco

Probably burnt up a couple of the fusible links over at the solenoid.
Look at the solenoid, at the large terminal that goes to the battery with the short cable. Underneath this large terminal on the solenoid you will find a smaller wire with a large ring connector on it. Pull this off(disconnect the battery first) and look at the wire. There should be a rectangle rubber thing in the wire. This is the fusible link, and it may be burnt out. Pull on it, and if it stretches, it's probably burnt in two.
After this, the wire goes down in the harness and hits some splices with some more fusible links. It eventually makes it's way into the cab on a large yellow wire, and feeds the ignition switch and the fuse box.
They sell new fusible links at the store. If you find one burnt out, I would replace it, it just saved your truck from someone's mistake.
