ok so right now i have a 97 f150. i am wanting to get a camper and do not want to tow with the half ton so i am looking into getting a 7.3. i am trying not to spend to much more than my f150 is worth which will be about 2500 3000 after a new trany. so the year of trucks in my price range are early to mid 90's 7.3 only down fall is they are not turboed. what would it take to turbo the truck.
Try posting over in the idi section. I am not turboed but from what I read as long as u get a complete kit it will bolt on and u need no mods to the motor for stock type boost levels.
the older idi's had a factory optioned turbo starting in '93.
you can generally score a used turbo for well under a grand if you can't find a turbo idi truck.
the odds of an idi truck requiring a fresh fuel system (ip and injectors) are very high since they should be replaced about every 100k miles.so plan this into your budget.around $500 for an ip,and $200-250 for a set of 8 injectors.
if you don't tune 'em up they're total dogs, cus we don't have the power to spare.
tuned up n/a trucks go just fine really.mines still n/a and she goes just fine around max rated combined gross.still plenty pedal left expect on the hills.it's when you let stuff go that n/a's becomes dogs in a hurry.
