Not sure if this is the right forum, if it isn't, mods could you please move thanks.
I was wanting to see if there is anyone in the Edmonton, Alberta area who knows how to do body work. I have no experience in this area and don't have any clue how to weld. I am looking to repair the rust damage on my 1987 extended cab f150. Please see the pics and let me know what you think. I don't have a pic of it, but the driver side floor pan would probably need to be replaced as well as it has rusted thru along the door sill, but the carpet is covering it. I am not going to do anything with bed as I plan on removing it and installing a flat deck.
The problem here is not what you see....it's what you don't see.
As cancerous as that is, you are going to be cutting away a lot of metal to ensure that you have all the hidden rust out of the there. The part that really sucks is that it's such a narrow panel, as well as on the bottom 'seam' and even into the floor. You are talking about a LOT of labor time to patch panel this the right way and make it look right.
You might honestly be better off finding another cab and doing a swap. I only say that because that is the rust you SEE...you could spend a lot of money to get that fixed only to find out that some other spot shows it's ugly head down the road. Get a new cab, take your old one to the scrap yard and get cash for it to help offset the cost.
So basically what you're telling me is I should take and get a truck in better shape and use this one for parts.
LOL...no. I'm warning you that the rust at that cancerous of a level is very intrusive. it might go way into the panel, and the floor from what it looks like. So there might be a really good chunk of the back of the cab that needs to be hacked off and patched. But due to the location and the shape, it's going to take quite a bit of fab to make it look right. You might consider finding a new cab for cost factor.
But since you brought that up, if the cab is that bad, what is hiding on the rest of the truck?
