I agree with rebocardo, but with my '72 the ground wire is located low in motor compartment where it grounds to block. If someone wants to make your alarm system dead, it is easy to get to under the truck. I have another ground wire high up in engine bay from battery to inner fender, and also motor is grounded to firewall.
I'M NEW HERE ALSO, AND I'M WONDERING HOW TO JUMP ACROSS THE STATER SELINOID WITH A CABLE BEFORE I GO THROUGH HELL CHANGING MY STARTER ON MY '72 F350 W/HEADERS.
It is difficult to jump across the solinoid because the starter draws so much current. You can bypass the ign switch by touching the small S terminal to the bat+ terminal on the solinoid with a screwdriver.
Can someone tell me the part number for a flexplate for a 390FE with a C6 transmission (automatic). I have finally gotten the time to pull the old one out (it is missing a bunch of teeth).
Guys, I need help. I took the starter off my truck; it's a '76 4x4 with a '67 352. The motor is great, but after I replaced the starter it breaks along the outer mounting ear in about a week. I have gone through about 4 starters. I can't find a shim for it, so I put washers behind it and it didn't really help. Someone told me my timing was too far advanced so I retarded it, and it sounds quite a bit better, but not normal. I will try to take the washers out and see what's next, but if anyone knows if I need a short nose/ long nose or anything that will help I appreciate it. My headers were welded to the rest of the exhaust, and I still have small block springs in the front so I have to unbolt the motor and jack it up to change the starter. Thanks for any help
I've had numerous problems, one being the starter. I have headers so can hardly touch the starter, much less replace it. Bought a heat wrap for the starter and haven't had any problems with it since.
