I just brought her home today. A very solid daily driver as she sits. The paint was a DIY job by the PO. It is not very good, but it's keeping the rust off. 352 3 spd.
I sold my 09 F150 because I wanted something with style and I have always wanted a 65-66 anyway.
On a 10k-ish budget I want to make a truck that I can keep and use everyday. Im 52 years old and this is the last truck I plan on buying, unless my wife takes it from me. She already told me that as soon as I get at and ps she is taking it for herself. Thats ok with me, I would like a matching 66 Galaxie 500 XL anyway.
I will have lots of questions and thoughts on this project, Im starting right away.
You can upload them to image shack or something and post them that way. Sounds like a nice truck. Mine has a DIY paint job because, well, I did it my self.
Great lookin truck!! Enjoy Ruby!! And I think with 10k to spend,, you can have a GREAT daily driver,, heck I only have 2800 into my 66 and I drive it all over the place!!
Welcome aboard; All my future trucks will be at/ps so my wife can drive them if she wants to; however the exhuast & old 8 tracks usually turn's her smile into a frown. lol
I have a 66 F-100 I-6 with a 3 speed on the column, and manual steering, and my wife drives it. I will be teaching my 16 year old niece how to drive it next week. No need for an Auto and PS to get the women around here to drive em!!
my wife drove mine years age(64'f250 4x4 4on the floor 9.50x16.5) people at work lol at her but got her home in the snow! hard with out ps pb power seats
power door locks and worst of all ammmm radio
Are you going to remain bone stock? you might want to consider when planning your budget. Is it a restoration or an upgrade project. usually its a some of both.
I abandoned bone stock for some bolt on engine only performance, and
subtle style
Once I get finished in the engine bay, the upholstery gets a makeover
Im going to put in a column shift auto, ps and pb. I would like a more modern powerplant. 4.9/5.0/5.8, anything with a serpentine. Ac later, we live in the South.
My recommendation, just drive the truck for a few months to get a handle on the truck, let it speak to you. You won't get mpgs but you may like the pulling power of the FE engine.
A 73-76 F100/150 360/390 C6 will make a power steering, power disc brake, auto tranny upgrade using FE parts. Swapping to a newer modular engine will require engine & tranny swap from a different donor.
Depending on your resources a couple weekends to a month to swap the brake steering upgrade. You need to buy your donor truck so that you have ALL the needed parts.
Start a frame off resto figure 2-5 years or longer, $10,000 to $30,000.00 in money.
