there is another similiar thread but im trying to avoid the repainting part
the majority of my truck is faded and naturally patina, but oddly there are a few extremely shiny parts to the truck, im just wondering if anyone knows any tips or tricks to make it all look older (going for the old shop truck look) without repainting the whole thing
Sand the shiny areas with 600 grit sandpaper. If that's not enough, try 300 grit. Just be careful around any body lines and corners, it's easy to sand through to the primer in those areas.
There are some chemicals that my local automotive paint store told me about that will do just that. The sanding will knock it down some too. Looks like you and I are heading down the same road with the "shop truck" theme
Post some pics if you can...show us what you're working with!
haha truthfully i have thought about this alot and after reading your post it was the best way to go with my truck, i dont have the money (or dont wanna spend it at the moment) to get a full paintjob so this is the way im gunna try to go
thats the shiny side
thats the faded/destroyed side, im just trying to make it all look like that
and i have a guy that can make vinyls that look like they are painted on so i have to get the paint right first
I'm diggin' the flareside! Yeah, if you could find a way to dull it down I think that would look great. I'm actually searching around right now trying to find a sanding technique to get the satin appearance. What type of "company" are you planning to do in vinyl on the doors?
im thinking of doing my last name, its either going to be for an irish pub (since my last name is O'Brien) or an Heating and Cooling company (since both me and my dad went to school for it) but to be honest i dont know if i like either of those ideas yet haha
Probably a fictitious salvage yard or auto supply setup from a northern Arizona town since that's where the truck was sold when new. Just a couple of ideas
