Question Wrench trouble light?

I have an 05 6.0 with 65,000 miles It came on while driving 65 on the highway. It was about 76 degrees outside. Coolant temp was 191, good oil pressure and volts. Manual says it depowers to save the engine. I had no loss of power. Just did oil and filter, coolant flush with addition of filter mod. Air filter gauge shows low vacuum. Coolant level was fine. Scangauge II didn't pull any codes. It went off after I stopped and didn't come back on while driving home. Any ideas?

Go to Autopartsd store and have them code scan the truck if the CEL was on at one point there is Definatly a DTC stored in there. The SGII isnt a very good code reader but it is an AWESOME Gauge

Program the SGII for ICP & ICPV & IPR% Take values at KOEO and at HOT idel(ECT190*) and at Hot High Idel (2500rpm) All in Park and post values of each test

Are you positive you have OEM Oil Filter Cap and OEM Oil Filter
Being an 05 I suspect a HPO Leak

What do you get for ECT vs EOT spread diffrence when you preform the test

Benny meant icp voltage. It takes a min. of 500 psi at the icp to fire the injectors. If the trucks running it's my op. that you have that. Could however be below what's needed thru out the firing range. 28.5 psi boost is on the verge of bing high. There could be a code for hi/lo turbo boost. They use the same code. That's probably a good place to start.

ICPV= Injector Control Pressure Volts

This is what the PCM sees/uses a volt reading to determine ICP In Fact MOST PIDS are sent in a Volt reading to PCM

Now if a person has a Gauge that reads ICP psi its the programing of the gauge that converts it from a Volt reading to a PSI reading

So basicaly just a check to rule out a Gauge Programming issue

What is the Code that you get

P0299??????????????

My scangauge do not show any codes but it says that I have 3 DTC. I would think it is an overboost. I would need a code reader, a garage charge like 50 dollars here to check codes. What should I look for a good cheap code reader?

Any idea what cause a high boost? My truck always had 28, to 28.5 boost. I ordered the turbo kit and will clean it when parts come in.

Auto part stores scan for free

They figure if they scan it you will buy the part to fix it from them

The only code reader that you can be sure will get ALL CODES is something thats Ford Enhanced
I have a code reader its a Innova seems to get the codes alittle better than SGII only engine stuff though no ABS or Tranny codes need Ford enhanced for those or would be best to hAve the Ford Bundle

Your truck likely has the latest calibration loaded into your PCM, setting a P0234 Turbo Overboost code by what you describe.

Pull the turbo out and apart. Replace the unison ring too, along with the turbo kit. The part number for the unison ring from Ford is 3C3Z-6C885-A. Don't even bother to ask the parts guys at the dealer to look it up either, because it won't list it as available in Microcat.

Thanks, I was told there was no replacement parts for the turbo, this is good news. I plan on cleaning the turbo and will check with my dealer tomorow for the unison ring. Hope they can order it.

The Ford code reader is a bit expensive kit but it seems to be the only 100% sure code reader.

For a DIY guy the AutoEnginuty with the Ford Bundle is about the best you could get without having to pay a Small Fortune for a code reader or computer program all engine and ABS,Tranney ect.....

I have an Innova code reader it does OK reading engine codes but no ABS or Tranney, I didnt buy it for my truck though so I dont expect to much of it

SGII is an Awesome Gauge but not the best code reader

One thing I can say about every code reader I have purchased is that 1-2 repairs that the code reader helps diagnos Pays for itself

My SGII caught that bad Oil Cooler and a Bad Alternator so IMO its paid for itself many Times over considering what the outcome would have been had I let things totaly Fail before I took any action to correct the problem.

Plus Even if you dont do the Repairs on your ride you can still Scan it and get a General Idea what System or Components need to be addressed by the Shop so Basicaly you would use it to Protect yourself from unessasery repairs and Bottom Line THEFT

If you need to be looking over the shoulder of said shop to be doing repairs on your truck, perhaps you need to evaluate whether said shop has any business being under the hood in the first place. You shouldn't even be needing to scan your own vehicle for codes yourself before taking your truck in to be diagnosed/repaired, if said shop is familiar or experienced with your truck.

Mike I wish there were more shops that had a reputation like that in my area. All the larger shops and a few of the smaller ones in my area have a rep for shody work or nasty bills sometimes both. Many people are forced to use them, the tow bill into the next town or calgary is insane.

Isn't BC a ridiculously expensive province to live in? But on the same token, most of you should likely be making six digits to offset the high costs too. I don't even want to imagine what fuel costs per litre in your neck of the woods.

I'm in alberta right now, spend most my time here in a town called Canmore just on the out skirts of Banff.LOL yea the pay is good..The fuel in northern bc is up around 1.40 per liter its only about 1.17 down here. The sad fact is there are only a handfull of people in these parts I trust enough to recomend to others that need work done.
