Am I Ready?

Alright guys. I'm thinking about making the switch from my Bullydog to a Dp-Tuner. I have heard so many great things and did a lot of research about Dp-tuner and I feel comfortable with going with their tunes since I know my Bullydog has "off the shelf" tunes. I'm thinking about going with 1. Stock 2. 80hp econo 3. 80hp tow 4. 100hp performance. I mostly use my truck as a daily driver but sometimes need to haul a trailer of dirtbikes and quads or scrap. I just want the 100hp performance for play

The mods are in my signature so tell me what you think or would recommend.

Looking good for the mods.

If it was me, I would get.

1. stock

2. High idle (1200) rpm.

3. 80e.

4. 60 or 80tow.

5. 120 race.

The 80e is not a whole lot different then the 100hp tune.

hi km1210,
can you even ride off road in **** jersey? any way to answer your questions about tunes, you might talk to DP about how much weight you will actually tow. the more
power you make, the less you can use because exhaust temps increase. i have a 60t
and might get a 40t. its the good shift stratagy that helps the most.
also get an economy tune without the down shift, like a 40 or 60e. the down shift
can be annoying when driving where the speed limit is around 45 mph. it looks like you have the supporting mods, so the next step is talk to DP. they have all the answers to
your questions. what ever you get you'll like it. mine feels like a 60's muscle car.

Yes, **** jersey is terrible for riding lol. Most of the places I ride are illegal, but I never get bothered by anyone. As for as the tunes go, are you saying that the 80 econo tune has bad downshifting as opposed to the 60 econo tune? Is there any real hp differences between the two? As for the towing tune, I chose the 80 tow because I know that the trailer with stuff on it isn't that heavy, but I want to be on the safe side with getting a tow tune just in case I do have to tow something between 5k-9k.

Fill me in on this info about the downshifting on the 80econo tune.

the down shift is the same in both tunes. its not bad, its like letting out on the clutch with a stick shift, it gives you engine braking. its just that it will up and down shift when you don't expect it when the speed your driving is around 45 or so. for around town it isn't really needed to keep the t\c locked when it drops out of over drive, and would be nice to have it shift like stock. i like the down shift alot, just not in that situation. i want to get the down shift removed from my 60e. after its warm i usually use 80e most of the time. its a great allround tune, no smoke and really pulls. if i was going to have only 1 tow tune, it would be 40t, you never know what you might pull in the future. this is just my feelings about it, other guys like other tunes, but i will tell you this, its hard to take stock after driving with DP tunes. stock feels like theres something wrong.

I would get the high idle but don't have enough money to dish out on a tune thats not always going to be used. Is there any difference between the 100hp and 120 race tunes? If not then I would go with 120 race.

i don't know, idon't have those. but from what guys that do seem to say is you really need to start adding fuel to get much out of those tunes other than smoke. for me its all about drivability. the tunes just make it feel right, like i said, 60's muscle car, responds to the pedal. you'll see when you get them. makes you smile. you said its your daily driver, for me, 80e is all i want in performance. don't let the (e) fool you, 80e gets it!

There is not a lot of difference between the 100hp tune and the 120hp tune, but there is more difference between the 80hp tune and the 120hp tune. If your HPOP is in good condition, you will be happy with the 120hp tune.

Is there any way to order the 60e or 80e tune without the downshift? Or would you have to call and ask them to not include the downshift?

I think you would have to ask not to have it in one of your tunes, but your going to have to call them anyway to order what you want. they will ask you about your truck and you can ask them about it then. the down shift is fun and functional, just not all the time. of coarse you could drive around town in stock.

I have had my DP for less than a week but so far so good. I ordered through Clay (RiffRaff), had the chip in about one week. I did ask DP a few questions first, had great response from James. They are great folks to deal with. I have been using my 80e mostly, have 60t, decel, stock, hi idle and no start. For what I wanted this is good combo. I really wanted the decel feature for towing our 12k 5th wheel out west, real mountains that gave my brakes fits last year.
There is also a form you fill out when you order, includes what mods you have.
I did a lot of forum looking, but the email contact with them really helped me feel more comfortable with my decision.
Good luck.

When you order online, it gives you some check boxes, I think the downshift is part of what he calls econ mountain tune. I think he quit putting it on cause of the complaints and that's why it's an option now. I'll notice my self in 120 just for the downshift after I had it removed from the 80 econo. Good luck with your decision.

i have had my tuner on for about a year , so what Bulla said makes sense, i ordered mine on the phone from james. stock and no start are free. the decel is cool also. really helps on those long down hill grades, even when not towing

I just made that switch about a month ago and all I can say is WOW! The Bullydog is a POS compared to the DP. EGTs are almost 100 degrees cooler in every occasion which is only a good thing. MPGs are up at least 3 MPG too. Keep in mind that I did not change anything besides the programmer. I kick myself in the butt everyday that I didn't just upgrade years ago. Definitely make the switch ASAP!
