Why do you drive a Ford ?

What convinced you to drive Fords ? Was it because your family was a Ford family ?

Was it because of some particular experience you had with a Ford or Fords ?

What made you a Ford fan ?

For me it's always been about reliability, then looks. I've never had a Ford leave me on the side of the road.

Had a couple of "under the table" jobs in the early 90's - one was driving auto transport and the other was driving cars through an auto auction. It was a prime opportunity to drive and experience cars/trucks from various different domestic and import manufacturers. I found the Fords to be better overall in quality. I was already driving an Econoline van at that time and, with the exception of a couple of AMC's and a Plymouth I inherited, I've been driving Fords since...

Well the engine in my 81 Chevy was starting to sound like a diesel, so I knew it wasn't going to last much longer. I was using my Toyota Tercel for my caily driver til the water pump went out and I burned up the engine. I needed something to drive and soon.
The local used car lot had this 93 F-250 cab/chassie for a reasonable price, and I could put the flatbed off my Chevy onto the F-250, so I bought it.
Several years later. I went home to California for the Thanksgiving and my dad was in real bad health. He ended up dieing while i was there, and my stepmom gave me my dad's 92 Flairside.
So that's how I ended up with Fords

My dad always drove GM's and had lots of issues with them. He was loyal to a fault. I've owned a couple GM products and a Honda and the rest all Fords. My Fords have always given me great service, my dealer(s) give me great deals and I love the way they look and handle.

Ford offers a ton of standard safety features that all the import car builders want you to pay extra for as an options package. Chrysler products are very attractive but they seem to be built quite flimsy.

Personaly I look any car or truck as a tool to get a job done. I don't think Ford does everything better than GM or Chrysler. I don't think that GM or Dodge have one up on Ford either.

Fords have there good points as well as GM & Dodge. Flat out, every truck maker could stand to learn something from the other....

I have been stranded more times by a Ford than a GM btw. I have never been stranded by a Chrysler product though.

That said, I only drive full size Ford Trucks because I know them and they fit me best. Just like that Snap-On tool fits in the palm of the hand best at least to me.

Small trucks? I will take a S-10 hands down over a Ranger any day.

Vans? Ford fits me best there, both full and mid size.

Cars, well I am a traditional GM luxury car buyer, and have always prefereed a GM car over a Ford or Lincoln for one simple reason - Bi-Level heating! Why Ford resisted this simple, warm floors, cool air out of the vents for so many years I cannot uderstand, but it is the perfect thing for those sunny, but cold days.

NONE of the big three have yet to figure out to hook the outside vents up to either conditioned (heated or cooled) or outside air so that we can have a blast of cold air on the face to keep alert while having heat out of the others. Honda did this in 1982!

So nothing is perfect, we all have our own reasons as to why we drive what we drive and why. The perfect ruck to me would be to take the best from each and combine it!

My two cents. Tools are tools, get and use what fits and works best for you, but at the end of the day Snap-On, Matco, MAC, Craftsman they all will do the task at hand, just like a Ford, GM or Chrysler product gets the job done at the end of the day.

I grew up first with mopars, then pontiacs and oldsmobiles. I bought a beat up 77 F-100 in 97 and sold it last year when I bought my beat Ranger for cheap. I have drove alot of trucks and for a short time owned a s-10 but i like the ranger better. I think the only Ford I would actually want to buy is a Mustang or a pre 75 whatever. I work on cars for a living and there is really no have to have cars for me, old stuff is more fun.

I don't know how you could pic a S-10 over a Ranger............Just look how many OLD Rangers are still on the road............A 80s S-10?.........Most have already become toyotas and hondas.

In this area there are a heck of a lot more S-10's than Rangers. Trying to find a automatic older Ranger is next to impossible due to Ford's crummy and failure prone Ranger size automatics which doomed these trucks to a early death as most can't justify putting that money in a older truck. Why Ford decided to not use the same tranny as the full size is unfathomable.

S-10's at least used a full size automatic. Perhaps with some internal changes because the loading and horespower was less, but still full size shafts, bearings and housings.

Ranger size V-6's also have a bad reputation when it comes to head gasket failures, although I understand the later ones are fine.

Of course on the flip side, the early S-10's V-6's (2.8L) had a bad reputation for rear main seal failures.

Nothing is perfect, Fords included!

I also hate the Rangers seating and egonomics. Why Ford felt they had to put those wide A & B pillars on I also can't understand. The door window frames also suffer from the same overwidth. If they had used better quality steel, then the frames and pillars could have been made thinner without any weight penality, enhancing outward visability, which is pretty important in a lower height vehicle.

So that is why I choose the S-10 hands down. To me, the Ranger is not even a distant second, at least the older ones. The newer ones, forgetting the ergonomics are much more likeable.

But really it comes down to personal choices and what works as the best tool for you.

Gee, I only got 365,000 out of my 2.8 V-6 before a rebuild...........never heard of even a 4.3 going that far...........I do despise the 2.9 however it was NOT one of Fords better ideas.
I will give you the Ford auto tranny thing, that's why I have NEVER owned a Ranger with a slop-o-matic.
Every S-10 with a few years on it around here is one step ahead of the crusher, one guy I know has a 86 S-10, he has to lock the drivers door, and use the pass. door to get in, otherwise the door swings open making right turns and will not re-lock. Other than the clutch pedal falling off occasionally, it still runs........if only on 5 cylinders.

I will admit, I have tortured my Rangers and made them do F-250 type work on occasion, they have never let me down.

The Chevy 4.3 V6 is a very reliable and durable engine.
