First Ford was a '80 Mk-I Fiesta. It was chosen simply because it was significantly cheaper than a VW Rabbit at the time. Honda dealers were also gouging on Civic's.
Came from a primarily GM family, but a few Mopars had moved in and Dad tried one Ford product, a '64 Continental, gorgeous, but unreliable.
It isn't all that complicated. Many times it is simply because it was the first make you were introduced to. That is the reason I am into Fords first and others second. Just like the first baseball team I was introduced to was the New York Yankees when 4 years old. The Baltimore Colts when 7 in Pop Warner along with the Baltimore Bullets. I no longer root for any basketball team and there is no Baltimore Colts anymore.
My dad had a good experience with them and when I started working on trucks the fords were easier to work on. Plus cheaper. More reliable. Family thing pretty much. Got our neighbor to buy a Ford.

For some reason I was always a Ford guy, even in my teens. But as time went on, I bought several Chevys. Some were reliable, most were not. It seemed as if the newer they were, the worse they got. After our last GM vehicle, a '97 Suburban ended up costing more in repairs than it had cost to buy, I've had enough. I bought my '04 V10 F250 three years ago and finally enjoyed a quality vehicle. Last month my wife and I bought an '08 Fusion as a family car and love it. We drove a Chevy Impala SS that my wife liked, but I stood firm on the no-more-Chevys-ever thing and am glad I did. I know lots of people who own and drive Chevys and for them they do fine, so good for them. But I've had better luck with Fords so for me it's Blue Ovals from here on out.
Well the reason I drive a Ford is because of my late grandfather. He was my hero and when I was a little kid he had a 76 ford pickup with the 460 and I was just in awe of that truck. I have seen him do things with that truck that blew my mind. I looked at that truck and my grandfather as larger than life. As I got older and started driving and buying my own vehicles I realized that fords are just better vehicles. The funny thing is that my dads side of the family is 100% chevy so I hear crap from them all the time. But I have learned over the years that chevy trucks are pretty boy trucks, plain and simple. If you want a cush grocery getter, by all means get a chevy. But if you want a real truck that is gonna get down and dirty and work, you get a ford.

Two experiences I drove, that really made a positive impression regarding Fords was driving a couple of Ford commercial (vans) vehicles.
I drove an early '70's E 300 with the 300 cubic inch inline six and , E 350 cab and chassis (duallies) with a 16 (maybe 18, can't remember ) foot box, with reefer unit.
I drove the E 350 from new and it had the 460 V8, C6 transmission.
Both trucks were very robustly built and in the couple of years I drove them....I can recall only one problem...the E 300 blew a rad hose....not a big deal.
I think I put about 30,000 miles on the E 300 and about 100,000 miles + on the E 350.
The E 300 was an old wholesale fish delivery truck and there was a certain...'aroma'.... Being an open van...the boss told me to toss some concentrated perfume into the cargo area to counter the extremely strong smell of fish.
After about 6 months...the fish smell dissipated.
Anyways the reliability, durability and general overall toughness was very impressive. All these qualities are always a bonus, but especially so when they are commercially used vehicles, as you never want down time.
family was mainly a ford family , grandpa sager , my hero , raced flathead powered and fe powered dirt track cars , i have had no luck with anything with a gm name tag on it . had some nice ones , and a couple i kinda want back , like my 64 impala ss , and 74 monte with factory 454 , but the damn things would blow up if i just got into them , and they drove me to beating my head with things trying to get them to run and get me from point a to point a.5 ........... not a huge devotee of mopars , so .............
well tim did not ford kick furryari's **** in the 60's on their own turf ????? so you drive something that is the equal of them right ????? ( better to me as i don't have to have tons of cash to afford it , unless my dream car is taken into consideration , a real shelby cobra preferably a competition version !!! )
