Don't know what code reader you have, as you didn't post a link to it.
ranger pat is right, all 96 vhicles were to be OBD-2, but some 95 models were a mix of OBD-1 & OBD-2 & your 94 Ranger is OBD-1, so you'll find its DLC under hood & will need a code reader, or scantool that'll hook up to its (DLC) connector.
However on your OBD-1 system you don't need a code reader or scantool to pull any trouble codes, you can use the dash CEL to blink/read stored trouble code numbers, by following instructions posted in the "Tech Info" thread atop this forums thread listing page.
My 95 is OBD-II, and I've heard some Ca 94's were as well.
OBD-I has a reader port under the hood.
OBD-II has a reader port under the dash, near the hood release.
I have a 1995 Ranger- and I was baffled as to why it had the connector under the dash and all the reading I found said 95 was OBDI.
Nice to see that mine is OBDII and I can use my code reader.
Thanks for the post...
Now if I can only figure out how to pull trans codes w/o taking to a shop...
