A dealer can fix the problem by lowering the drive shaft possibly or adjusting the pinion angle. Fixing the problem with a load may create a problem unloaded. In my opinion a small amount of axle wrap is acceptable. Was your load actually 1 ton or more? I rarely hear customers complain about axle wrap with F150s. On 250s and 350s it is a common complaint for owners with truck campers and 5th wheel trailers on 2008 and newer trucks. The older trucks like mine had shorter springs.
Jimmy, see my other post which I am about to start about how much it was - and help me guessing!
I hauled another load today - and took a few pictures. The shudder was there, same as yesterday, but I can actually avoid it by taking it very easy from zero to 5mph, so it's not all that much of a big deal.
Thanks, Juneau & efx4!
I don't think it's rubbing - it did sag a bit, but looked about level. With the tires rubbing, I'd also not expect it on take-off only, the shudder was gone at > 5 mph or so.
efx, the drive shaft would make sense. I can live with it - if it does not get worse and/or start doing it unloaded. How many miles do you have on your truck, and has the shudder changed over time?
My truck has 10,400 + miles and the shudder hasn't changed. It's not that bad and it only happens if I accelerate aggressively when towing .Driving solo everything is fine.
Yeah, I read through the other thread, and I am sure it's axle wrap. Some Toyotas experience the same thing, I had that with my Tacoma sometimes.
Comparing to what people describe in that other thread, what I have is very minor. Unloaded there is no problem at all. Considering that, I'll probably do nothing for now, and will be watching it, especially my first tow. I think the stiffer HD payload springs keep this from happening when empty, and my load was really heavy while the shudder wasn't all that bad considering what others have seen. No problem in second (or any other) gear either.
Only one thing seems to be for sure: talking to the dealer about this appears to be a waste of time.
That sounds better, and will be acceptable to me if mine behaves like that.
So based on this quote in the other thread I would think a little axle wrap/shudder is acceptable.

Me, truck, full tank: 6,220 lbs.
So the wood was 2,120 lbs. You guys were really close. Thanks for playing.
I have checked - I did not hit the bump stops, probably wasn't even close. No marks, the axle is just dirty from the rain of the last few weeks.
I agree. I was pretty much at the limit.
I can avoid the shutter even with that load, so I just call it good. Thanks for all the feedback!
I have hauled a lot of green wood and the way u have that stacked I would bet u r no where near a ton of weight?? For 40K ford would fix the problem or they could have it back especially with the HD pack

The load in the picture was 2,120 lbs of wood.

Not needed, the truck was about level with the load, and it hauled it great.
i have had my truck loaded with just as much as that or even more and never had a shutter or shake out of it. might be that i have a 5.5 foot bed and had wood stacked up to top of the cab.
