my center capbkeepsbfalling off!

I had my center cap fall off once then I put it back on and I lost it the second time so i bought a new one for 70 bucks and it has fallen off 5 times in the past month wtf is wrong!?!? I'm getting so frustrated and I just lost it on the highway so there's no getting it back and I really want to fix this before I spend more money to add more frustration

The clips get weak over time on those older style caps. The caps off of late model trucks will fit just fine and update the looks. If you don't like the newer caps, try to gently squeeze the clips with some pliers before you put them on, so they will grab the lug nuts tighter.

BTW, I just bought a brand new (still in the bags with Ford parts numbers) set of 4 off of eBay for $80. The Ford logos fell off of my '08 caps after 5 years on 96k miles.

The clips on mine are plastic so i couldn't squeeze them are the newer ones metal? I'm interested in your center caps tho will they fit an 04? Also around the hubs s in mine?

I've had mine off so long I can't remember how they attach, don't they attach to the lug nuts? Maybe lug nuts are rounded just a tad if so?

That's what I suspected but I got a screw through my tire and I had them looked at while they plugged the hole and they said it was fine so I'm out if ideas lol i personally still think they might be rounded

Plastic and metal, IMO, unless you're a machinist you're not gonna visually see the difference. I would try swapping all of the lug nuts to another tire, but not the center cap and see if you lose that one, I guess But having a brand new one I'd think it would have enough grab even if there is rounding, the only other thing I can think of is the tire is balanced and is creating enough wobbling, got me, good luck

Oh that's a good point I don't feel vibrations or anything but my tires are almost to the point of changing them out. One thing the tire shop said was it looks like the cap isn't sitting all the way down on the rim and when i hit bumps the flex in the rim might occasionally pop it off.

I feel like it isnt worth $70 but oh well the tabs are only plastic so i feel like bending them will only weaken them but i might try new lug nuts and see how it goes i guess. It just started happening around september of last year and the new one stayed on pretty much for 3 months before it started falling off again and then it fell off like 5 or 6 times in a row.

Resolved!

So i got another center cap off of Roseclifford and it was one with the 4 metal clips instead of 8 plastic ones and i was running into the same problem as my old center cap where i could snap it on but pull it off easily. I realized that my rims are starting to rust and flake in the holes and that the chrome cover is starting to push outward slightly. to get my center cap to stay on (i know its not the smartest idea) but i used 4 1/16th inch washers behind 4 of the lugnuts to make them sit a little farther out and then i snapped the cap on and i could not get it off by hand. This is just a temporary fix until i can get enough time to remove the wheel and try and bend the chrome cover a little bit.

my dads 2000 has the metal cliped center cap and so does my 2004 and there is no way i can pull them off without using the lugnut wrench to pop them off. So your chromed steel wheel is rusting and causing that much of a problem? Id look on craigslist for a set of aluminum Ford wheels for cheap. i see them all the time on there, i just happen to have the delux aluminum so i never buy them

Throw some silicone on 'em.

The center caps on my old aftermarket wheels used to rattle around so I just dabbed some clear silicone on them to hold them in place. When I rotated the tires, they pull apart pretty easily.
