Replaced the water pump earlier this week. Did the flush with distilled water. Did the 50/50 with Zerex. Lower radiator hose came off lost what was ever in the radiator. Temperature gauge didnt indicate overheating. If I hadnt stopped to get fuel I wouldnt have known. Any ideas?
My guess is that the water temperature gage did not see high temperatures because it was not in contact with any coolant. If you lost all system coolant, water temperature readings are meaningless.
If your engine did not get super hot, it will probably be OK after the radiator hose is replaced and coolant added. Pull the oil filter and look at the stand-pipe. If the engine temperature was high enough to deform the stand-pipe, then the engine has major problems.
Consult one of the expert technicians here if you believe that the engine had a major overheating event. These guys are very willing to help us.
