The Summit people said the 65 2wd mounts I have are the same as their Transdapt mounts. I am using the 62 borg warner tranny. It is a 4 speed T98?? I was told that with the FT bellhousing/mount it is a bolt on fit. As for the timing cover I had planned on having it welded up a little closer to the FE specs then machined to where the smaller FE seal would fit. Suggestions?
I got a measurement on my mounts, About 10.5" on the drivers side and about 8"on the pass. side. That was from the top of the perch to the frame on the bottom side. If yours are close and need anything else, I can jack up the truck and get a little better measurement.
The mounts i pictured are transdapt. Summit failed the bill when they sold you a 2 wheel drive cross member. No one makes a specific four wheel drive unit as adding one will interfere with the front axle housing.
The FT front cover is thicker and may interfere with the wing weight. You can weld it up but it is cast aluminum and a bitch to repair.
The T98 will not fit any bell housing after 64. It was replaced by the BW T18.
Sit back and rethink your approach and just how you need to proceed with the swap.
I assumed this 4x4 still has the original T98, but I have not verified this. It looks like a T98 I had in a 63 years ago. However, when I got the truck the PO had a 351C sitting in it. I sold the Cleveland. I assume it still has the original transmission however. Reverse is all the way to the left & forward so it is a Borg Warner and not a New Process.
The transmission pattern changed in 65 for all light truck transmissions
61 to 64 used a specific four speed bell and a second specific three speed bell. In 65 it was consolidated to a single pattern. The FT Was introduced in trucks in 65 The best place for these to be obtained for swap parts are the F350 as it remained a straight axle until 67 and used the front and bell mounts. heavier trucks have a larger bell to accept the Clark and fullers.
NP 435s are really rare in 64 light duty trucks as this was the first year for them. These are also year specific.
So the 67 F600 will not work.... I was certain my 62 has the holes for the bell housing mounts.... It looks as if the 65-66 F350 is my only option? I was certain the F600 would work.
I ordered my 65 F350 mounts today. Now you mentioned my Borg Warner will not work with this setup? I have the timing cover mounts, timing cover, and the bell housing mounts. Now what bell housing do I need for my Borg Warner to work? Will my 65 2wd F100 bellhousing work? Or a 64 F600? (292 engine) Thanks again for all the help.
Shot you a reply on the PM. The F600 might work if it is from a FT series it will have the correct bolt pattern for the bell but i do not know if the bell housing ears will be in the correct location for your four wheel drive F100 frame
The 292 bell only bolts to 292 engines. it interchanges with no other ford mills.
f you use the 2 wheel drive bell you need to add side mounts for a FE like the transdapt unit you have. You will also need to add a transmission mount and a new transmission as the one you have will not fit or have a rear mounting pad.
Ok I ordered new 1965 F350 front mounts, timing cover, and bell housing mounts. I think a FT Bellhousing will work. Now will the F600 FT transmission work with my 62 F100 4x4 as well, or will something else have to be done? Are these 4 speeds as well?
Thanks
Well I spoke to a friend of mine last night who has been building FE and FT engines since 1960. He has done this conversion several times, and he also did the conversion when putting 427 engines in his pulling trucks. I will have to use a 2 ton clutch, 2 ton transmission, and occasionally you have to modify the driveshaft to the transfer case. I will keep details posted.

Watch out on the FT bell some are made for a 12" flywheel. I know I have one for my 63 conversion so when the time comes I will have to find a bigger flywheel than the standard FE flywheel. I have talked with NummberDummy and he said that they can still be had. I havent searched one out since I talked with him but Im not to worried about finding one. You might ask your friend about this. I found out the hard way when I installed the fe flywheel and ft bell on the fe motor and the starter would not engage the standard fw. It does look like the t98 trans will be a match however just have to change the pilot bushing to a bigger opening as the np435 input shaft has a smaller diameter than th t98. Im pretty sure the ft bell with fit on the rear motor cross member and bold up in the proper place as i set it there to find out Ill have to go out this weekend again and set it on the frame and maybe snap a pic and refresh my memory. I have made some preliminary measurements on the front crossmember to rear on the 65 frame and it seems to me that the 63 rear to front cross members for fe come up about an 1 to 1 1/2 inch short so front crossmember will be installed using a rear trans cross frame mount up front for the front tc motor mount to sit on thats just a matter of bolting it in at the right highth no biggy. Good luck with yours Im watching to see how yours turns out Ill be getting to mine sometime after the summer.
