Hey guys thinking of replacing my motor has a knocking sound so I'm assu
Ing it's the rod bearings got messed and so did the crank. How long should it take to do a engine remove and replace? And also labour costs if anyone knows?
Generally a split nozzle is accompanied by white smoke out of the exhaust. Even without a bad nozzle bad injectors can hammer pretty bad depending what goes bad.
I just posted a video on YouTube of the engine knock. It is posted as 7.3 powerstroke Knock? My user name is 666drummer4 and I posted it 5 minutes ago sorry I could not just post a link straight to it, my phone is acting up and that's how I posted it
IF you spun a rod bearing, the knocking will get substantially louder over the duration of as little as 50 miles of driving, as the crankshaft rod bearing journal surface continues to wear away, increasing the size of the gap between the crank journal and the rod bearing housing. That was my experience when I spun a rod bearing on a 6.2L Chevy Diesel. An oil cooler hose blew while my wife was driving the vehicle. Puked out all the oil and she drove it about 1.5 miles at 20 mph prior to parking and calling me. Too late. The damage was already done. I replaced the failed hose, filled it up with fresh oil, and drove it for maybe 50 miles. The knocking noise was initially very subtle, but continued to get worse and worse, until I finally accepted the fact the gig was up and pulled and rebuilt the engine. The rod bearing journal surface on my crank was shot. Probably 1/8" in diameter was already worn away in just the first 50-70 miles of driving.
The knocking stays consistent when I drive the noise does not stop at any speeds. And also increases in speed with truck and smells like oil is leaking or diesel
Wow! That is pretty noticeable. Have you looked for blow by? Might consider pulling the valve covers for a look. No smoke? Strong diesel smell? Big truck by the way!
Thanks man. I recently purchased this truck I have been known for a lot of these jacked up 7.3. I took it for a drive and when the chip is on it burn alot of black but web off (and not very cold) and the smoke was greyest white. And I just noticed in the video that it looks like there is some fuel on the oil filter also. Tomorrow I'm planning on taking the valve cover off tomorrow and see if it is indeed an injector or maybe a rod
What was the outcome to your problem? I'm having the same issue can't seem to find the problem.Pulled off valve covers, found milky liquids, water going to oil pan. I'm really hoping I don't have a bad motor. Please help!
