Rgarcia,

If you end up replacing your motor and arent going to rebuild the bad one i might be interested in it. Send me a pm if you decide to get rid of it.

rgargia...water can mix with oil via the oil cooler seals being bad. Theres a rebuild kit for it...

Riffraff Diesel: Oil Cooler Seal Kit

Might be ur problem. Is your motor knocking too?

X2 what ^ said...

And your knock may not necessarily be related to your bottom end mechanicals...

I had what i was sure sounded like the same knock i heard on my 351w before i rebuilt it.
It had spun the main on #1 and chewed into journal deep enough for the bottom of the piston and the counter weight on the crank to "kiss" . The crank, and bearings... were the only damage. Everything else was perfect...except of course the cause of the problem initially. When the motor had beed rebuilt before, sumbody.. skrewded up and dud somethung screwy with the thrust bearing. It chewed into the crank allowing more and more fore and aft travel as the wear increased. The travel attacked the #1 journal/bearing first... and it failed magnificently.

Now... in my 7.3, the hutch mod and the frx cleared that knock right up.
Cant wait to get my uppies ordered so i can hear her run again after the refresh...

Quick question. Iam4x4 did your truck hold good oil pressure? Also did you drive it long after discovering the noise? My 01 7.3 makes a similar knock (I'm hoping it's injectors) but it's been doing it for the last 15-20k miles. It seems to get more noticable as I slow down and come to an idle but I can still hear it some out on the road. Just hoping that it's not a bearing!
