I have A 1986 ranger with a 2.9 v6. I am thinking of doing a diesel swap and I am wondering what engine and trans combos would work best for this. I was thinking 4bt but there are may other options that could work. Any Ideas? Thanks for the help.
i've heard the Isuzu 4BD1 diesel will also fit with some fab work into a Ranger..my 2.9L is getting tired.. would love a Diesel, but i can't afford one at the moment, and I have no place to do the swap..
At this point i want to do as little fabrication as possible. when my shop gets finished i will look into more details im just wodering whats out there and will work the best.
Swapping a diesel into a Ranger will take fab work any way you look at it. For less fab work a smaller diesel would be the way to go. 4BT or the Isuzu 4BD1
No matter what you choose, you will have to fab up engine and transmission mounts, and probably have to brace up the frame
I know there is fab work either way I go. Im just looking to find the best swap options for the truck without replacing all the drivetrain and suspension. I have read some storys of kubota engines in a ranger has anyone seen this and what are you opinions? Thanks for all ur help
I have a 91 with the izuzu 4 in it with a 4 speed and i love it. 52 mpg and took less than a week to swap from start to finish. Your best bet would be to find a donor truck and have fun.
Its a great learning experience and you can build to suit your needs. Imo
