Sooo. My 2008 6.4 started smoking heavily from the tailpipe and "clacking" under the hood. It settled down and ran fine for a day or two and did it again. Called the garage and they said to bring it in for a look. I never made it. The next time out the truck hit the reduced power mode and i had it towed in. End result - two melted pistons, a bad HPFP, 6 bad injectors, 4 quarts of fuel in the crankcase, 3 quarts of water and fuel in the CAC and Ford authorizing a reman engine - complete. The question is, do i keep this thing or trade it for a 2012? I worry that the bugs will never get worked out of this thing.

You got water in your fuel, F&&&ed your HPFP, F&&&ed your injectors, burned your pistons, raw fuel went in your exhaust, EGR, etc.
The bug you ran into would never be any better in any newer truck period.
What other issues do you have?
A good friend of mine dumped his duramax because of the exact same issue. The grass is always greener on the other side of the fence, because you're not standing on it.
