Hi all, I got this weird problem. My truck, '82 F150 2 wheel 2barrel carb, sputters only when turning left. No sputter at all any other time, easy on the gas hard on the gas. Carb is brand new. New fuel filter, Trans, ps pump. I don't think it would be the float adjustment seeing as it is only on left turns. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Well that rules out you doing any NASCAR racing then
I wouldn't rule out a float adjustment. Depents on the type float you have. If it's a center hung float then probably not. But if it's hung from one of the sides of the bowl, going around the corner might affect your level just enough to uncover one of your jets.
I had a problem once where I had a loose wire on my coil that would only show up when going around a corner. It wouldn't sputter thought...I would just cut out all together.
If you have an external means of checking bowl lever I would check it and either confirm it or rule it out. Go over everything and check for any loose connections...both mechanical and electrical.
Thanks for the reply. I'm going to check the float level this weekend when I don't have to drive 30 miles to work. Hopefully that is the problem seeing as how I try to map my route home using only right turns. By the way, if I went in reverse I could still do nascar.
Ha...yeah you could do that. That 2bbl not quite gonna cut it for that though
Let us know what you find. Look at you air cleaner and all that too while your in there. Make sure when you put it all back on there's nothing binding up or hitting on the choke or something really crazy like that. Just reaching for anything for ya....check the stuff you'd never think it would be while your getting in there. May turn out to be something so silly you will look right past it.
There is something about this that makes me suspect electrical.... wires in the steering column shorting out at certain times, wires wrapped up in the steering column under the hood, those two possibilities come to mind.
