What is the best way to increase my fuel mileage on my 6.0 diesel? Need a rough idea how much it would cost.
I know a diesel will run on it's own oil... What would happened if you mixed used engine oil with diesel fuel? Would it do any damage to the engine? Would this be a form of Bio diesel? When using cooking oil is there any special process you need to preform, any mods? Thanks.

The truck is capable of running on a variety of fuels, but you can't just pour it in.

Can you elborate on this a little more. Procedures or processes on what you would have to do to mix oil with your fuel. Whether it be motor oil or cooking oil? Thanks.
Not sure what I want to do.. I do not want to harm my engine. Do you know where I can get info for mixing oils with diesel? I was looking for the Pros and Cons. Do you know of any add ons that would increase the mileage 5+ miles per gallon? The price of fuel is going crazy.
Mixing used oil with your fuel isn't a good idea, there will be microscopic carbon, metal fragments and clutch material (if you burn used ATF) in the fuel no matter how small of a micron filter you pass it through. The tolerances on a 6.0L injector are too tight to take any abuse from crappy fuel. If you want to blend your fuel with something to cut down on your foreign oil burn...see if you can buy some biodiesel. If you go that route, make sure it's clean...no left over alcohol, acid or glycerin in the fuel. Disclaimer...Ford only recommends B5 in the 6.0 (5% biodiesel, 95% dino-diesel). But I know for a fact that it will burn B50 with no problems.
The only two side effects you need to be aware of are (A) if you have allot of miles on your truck the BioDiesel will clean all the crap out of your fuel tank...thus causing your fuel filters to clogged and (B) depending on the blend ratio you may face a fuel gelling issue as warm as 40F. If you really want to open a can of worms on what you can burn through a diesel engine...search through the alternative fuels forum here on FTE.
If you want to burn anything other than diesel in your truck, sell it and find an older 7.3 or older. It won't have all the emmision controls on it that stop you from doing it with the 6.0 or newer.
I found the best way to get the most mpg from any vehicle (besides laying off the gas pedal) is to keep up on routine maint. I have a 03 6.0 w/196K and I average approx. 15.5 mpg. Could be better is not for a lift and larger wheels & tires. Other than that its all stock. You could get a programmer that will allow you to tune for better gas mileage but, your trying to save money! Keeping clean filters and fluids in your truck will go along way in getting the best mpg and long life out of your engine. Best of luck on getting better mpg!
